Its original goal was to provide low-cost heating oil to underprivileged residents of Massachusetts by subsidizing the cost of fuel oil from margins realized from its commercial activities. John A. Hunt Jr. and Philip P. Leahy, along with a number of key employees, purchased the oil trading company from the non-profit and formed Citizens Resources LLC.
